-
Requirements to Grow Chives
-
Chives can be grown indoors in a sunny
window-sill but do better in an open sunny part of the garden or in
pots 15-20 cm in diameter.
-
Planting time for Growing Chives
-
Can be grown from seeds sown in spring or
autumn or by division of whole clumps at that time. Trim back the
foliage to at least half before replanting.
-
Cultivation Guide for Chives
-
Enrich the soil with a dressing of
poultry manure or complete plant food. Set tubers 30-40 cm apart about
10 cm deep. Keep reasonably moist once growth commences. Mulch with
compost. Removing flower buds improves tuber quality. Tubers are dug
from 4-5 months after planting until mid-winter.
