How to Grow Organic Pumpkin?

Pumpkin

Plant breeders have introduced several good bush types each one covering an area of only about 1m square. Intermediate varieties, e.g. butternut, spread only about 2 m so are suitable for relatively small gardens. Larger varieties such as Queensland Blue, Crown Prince and Triamble are likely to spread 4-5 m in each direction so do need more space. However, over-venturesome runners can be restrained by pinching the tips or heading them back toward the centre of the plant by carefully bending them around and holding in position with a small stake.

  • Planting time for Growing Organic Pumpkin

  • Plant in spring when soil is warming up and, in temperate climates, continue sowing until January or early February with quick-maturing Butternut and bush types. In cool climates the latter can be sown until December while the larger late-maturing types should not be planted after late November. In the extreme north the main sowing season for pumpkins is from late March until May.
