As a general rule of watering vegetable garden, let the soil surface dry out then give the soil a good soaking, if possible by using a fine spray that does not agitate or puddle the soil. Leave it on for about an hour but use a trowel in several parts of the garden co check whether the moisture has penetrated well down into the soil.
