Filling Soils in the Containers

  • The soil mix should come within 2-3 cm of the container's top when the material has settled down.

  • Initially loosely fill to the brim, and then gently but firmly press the just damp soil down, especially around the sides and in the corners of rectangular containers.

  • It will probably be necessary to add 1-2 cm of soil. If the margin between soil surface and the top edge of the container is greater than suggested, it may cause the seedlings to become leggy.

  • On the other hand, if the soil is closer to the rim, watering becomes difficult.
